DNA Profiling

Drugs

Interpol’s DNA Monitoring Expert Group (MEG) acts as an international point of reference to facilitate the utilisation and future development of DNA profiling as an investigative technique. It aims to stimulate the worldwide use of this technique, for example, by examining its use in the investigation of crimes and incidents, establishing protocols for the application of DNA, databasing issues and training.

The Interpol Drugs team aims to enhance co-operation among member countries and to stimulate the exchange of information between all national and international enforcement bodies concerned with countering the illicit production, traffic and use of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

Wanted   Fingerprints - AFIS
Ty fraction of the number of red notices issued by Interpol which are currently valid. Over 5800 individuals are wanted internationally by national jurisdictions in Interpol member states, or the International Criminal Tribunals for the Former Yugoslavia and Rwanda. Identification and offence details are circulated within law enforcement circles using Interpol Red Notices. These are requests for provisional arrest with a view to extradition.
Information on the development and implementation of fingerprinting systems for the general public and international law enforcement entities. In line with the ANSI/NIST standard data format for the interchange of fingerprint image information, the Interpol Implementation (INT-I), has been written to assist in the implementation of such systems. It has been drafted with special attention to the criteria of openness, non-intrusiveness, inter-operability and wide usage. You can also test your system’s compliance with ANSI-NIST (INT-I).
Interpol publications   Children
A range of specialised publications has been developed to assist bona fide professionals in certain fields: International Criminal Police Review; International Crime Statistics; Counterfeits and Forgeries Review; The Smart US $ Checker; Annual Passport Guide; Vehicle Registration Documents. The sexual abuse of children by adults to satisfy their own perversions is a global problem, it has always taken place and with modern methods of travel and communication, people with a similar interest move from country to country to abuse children and, since the introduction of the Internet, are now able to network exchanging child pornography and information in vast quantities and in very short periods of time.
Disaster Victim Identification   Works of Art
Major disasters are unfortunately a fact of life. Inevitably, lives are lost and victims have to be identified. Interpol offers sound practical advice, with particular emphasis on pre-planning and training. Awareness of the wide range of potential demands and difficulties leads to confident and competent handling of the aftermath of disaster situations. This benefits, above all, victims and their relatives, but also the other agencies with whom the police co-operate when disasters occur. The illicit trade in cultural objects is sustained by the demand from the Arts market, the opening of borders, the improvement in transport systems and the political instability of certain countries. It is difficult to gauge the extent of the trade: thefts are very often not discovered until the stolen objects are discovered on the official Arts market, and countries send very little information to Interpol and many do not keep statistics on this type of criminality.
